The impact of your role

As a Tax & Compliance Specialist, you will be responsible to ensure full local compliance with financial, tax, and statutory obligations in South Africa, acting as the key point of contact for all finance-related matters.

This role supports the implementation of corporate policies, manages local audits, and ensures accurate financial reporting and tax submissions, while maintaining strong relationships with external stakeholders such as banks, auditors, and tax authorities.

 

Main responsibilities

  • Manage, coordinate and monitor accounting and finance controls and compliance, annual financial statements, tax compliance, the local banking relationships, the local statutory audit, financial analysis, strategic projects, financial reporting, cash flow forecasting and business decision support to all the areas within the designated geography.
  • Accountable for producing institutional reports, treasury management according to the policies and guidelines of Sonae Arauco and the country’s tax obligations, in order to ensure the service levels on administrative requests regarding financial information.
  • Develop assessments of the different economic transactions that meet the Sonae Arauco goals and of the available fiscal and financial incentives and make recommendations and promoting or assuring implementation of the best choices involving different economic and fiscal consequences for the development of the activities of Sonae Arauco and its subsidiaries in order to optimize the Group’s results.
  • Support the legal department, whenever necessary, following and supporting fiscal issues.
  • Remain well informed about the regulatory environments in which the company operates and maintain knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements which includes: changes in local legislation and international legislation which has bearing on the local operations, accounting pronouncements and taxation.
  • Create accurate data analysis and advise senior management on profit-maximizing ideas to ensure long-term success.

 

Desired profile

What you must have:

  • Business related degree in Finance (NQF Level 8).
  • Tax qualification.
  • +-5 Years broad experience with exposure in different functions / disciplines.
  • 5 Years experience in similar responsibilities specific to this role.
  • Expert knowledge of South African tax legislation, tax and incentives (fiscal and financial) regarding national & international law.
  • Expert level experience in accounting and financial issues.
  • Knowledge of financial contractual conditions
  • In-depth knowledge of financial reporting standards
  • Fluency in English.
  • Comprehensive experience in SAP, Office 365 & all online statutory sites.
  • Analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Team spirit and collaboration.
